한동대학교 입학 후, '한동명예제도위원회'에서 디자인 담당을 맡아 1년 반 넘게 섬기고 있다. 이번에 감사하게 17년도 '한동명예주간' 현수막과 배너 디자인을 맡게 되었다. 작년의 경우 학업과 동시에 다른 작업들을 맡다보니 이처럼 큰 스케일의 디자인을 할 수 없었다. 지금은 비록 영국에 있지만 몇일 시간을 내서 작업을 했다.
After entering my university in Korea, I've been working for 'Handong Honour Code Committee' as a designer. Thankfully, I take charge of designing banners of 'Honour Week'. I could not design a big scale banners like that, for I did my projects with study and my skill was insufficient. Although I'm in the UK now, I made time for doing the project.
이번 주제는 '행함없는 믿음'이라고 한다. 이는 성경의 야고보서 2장 26절 말씀을 기반으로 한다. "영혼 없는 몸이 죽은 것 같이 행함이 없는 믿음은 죽은 것이다:. 처음에 한국에서 연락을 받고나서 어떻게 할지 고민했다. 그러다가 문뜩 '석상'이 떠올랐다. 영국에 와서 수많은 보느라 그런지 가장 먼저 생각났다.
석상의 경우 돌에 새겨짓 옷주름, 얼굴의 표정, 손가락 마디에 있는 주름, 등을 볼때 우리에게 '살아있다'는 느낌을 준다. 하지만 움직이지 않는다. 생명이 없는 것이다. 오랜시간이 지나면 자연스럽게 부셔져 다시 흙으로 돌아간다. '행함없는 믿음'도 마찬가지라고 생각한다. 열심히 교회 안에서 활동을 하고 다양한 부서에서 섬긴다. 하지만 삶속에서 믿음의 행동을 하고 살아가고 있는가?
A topic of this 'Honour Week' is 'Faith without deeds is dead'. This is based on a phrase from the Bible, James 2:26, which is "As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead". I go to pains to design right after I received a call from Korea. Suddenly, 'stone statue' floated into my mind.
We may think that statue is alive because of vivid wrinkles on clothes, facial expressions, creases on finger joints. However, it does not move or do something. Literally, it has no life. After a long time, it will become broken and return to dust. 'Faith without deeds' is same like this. Many Christians, including me, do so many works and serve in church for their faith. By the way, what about in our actual life?
주제를 부각시키기 위해 석상은 연기로 변해 사라지고 글자도 자연스럽게 없어지는 모습을 담아내었다.
The topic is embossed with the stone statue changing into smoke and gradually disappearing of letters.
가로등을 위한 배너는 글자에 효과를 넣지 않았다. 이 디자인까지 효과를 넣게 되면 오히려 해가될 것이다. 이를 자세히 보는 사람들은 없다. 지나가면서 보기 때문에 글자를 확실하게 보여줘야 한다. 위의 배너들은 한동대학교 오석관과 학관 사이에 있는 길에 설치가 될 예정이다. 배너 배경은 명예제도 뱃지를 사용했다. 우리가 무관심하고 행동을 하지 않으면 사라진다는 걸 표현하고 싶었다.
I did not put blur effects to letters on this design. I might be injurious for its characteristic. Most of people do not look carefully banners hung on streetlights. For this reason, it has to show clearly. These banners will be installed on streetlamp between library and school cafeteria. I used 'Honour badge' for background. I want to tell if we are indifferent to honour codes and don't put these into practice, the codes will be disappeared.
