Passion Week - Day 2, Authority

18. Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry.

19. Seeing a fig-tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, 'May you never bear fruit again!' Immediately the tree withered.

20. When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. 'How did the fig-tree wither so quickly?' they asked.

21. Jesus replied, 'Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig-tree, but also you can say to this mountain, "God, throw yourself into the sea," and it will be done.

22. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

Because Jesus cursed a fig-tree, the tree withered immediately. This shows that the Lord has an authority to save and to judge all creation. It has been hard to accept the authority for us, for humankind had committed the sins against him in Genesis. The tree did not bear any fruits, for it is to be expected that it always has fruits. 

In the same way, Christians must be ready for bearing fruits of faith. When you confess that he has done everything in your life, this means you now bear the fruits. Also, through this accident, he taught a principle of prayer and declaration by faith. Before you pray for being like that to God, check whether you have an absolute faith, which is never shaken by the world, in your life. Have the faith that God expects you to have.
